Lesbian or nah
In the most recent section of the novel The Color Purple, Celie experiences something completely new to her, her sexuality. It could be interpreted that Celie is clearly lesbian due to her masturbation to another woman, Shug Avery, and her lust with the female form, but it is also defendable that she just appears to be lesbian because of it is her first time experiencing something sexual. Of course, Celie has had sex many times with men, but it was never for the pleasure of it. Celie realizes the whole new realm of getting pleasure from sexual experiences due to Shug, so of course she is going to have some sort of appreciation for her. To many, it may come off as a sexual attraction to her, but it is unknown because Celie has never had a pleasant sexual experience with a man, so if she were to find a kind man that wasn't raping her, and she wanted to be involved in it, her feelings towards a man could be the same. It is too early in her sexual life to know how she identifies sexually because of her lack of experience with either of the sexes.
