Grape Kool-Aid

In the novel The Color Purple, Celie pushes the reader to the claim that she is indeed a lesbian.  After all the incidents that have occurred to her, she does not find any pleasure in sex with any man.  However, she does find Shug to be attractive and has even masturbated to Shug.  Along with this, it is also the fact that it was not just that she had masturbated to Shug Avery, but that it was the first time she truly felt pleasure and sexual arousement.  Also, they also have more than a physical connection.  They had a discussion and Shug had told Celie more about sex and how she should enjoy herself when having sex.  Her relationship with Shug also gives Celie comfort and allows her to be strong when she is with Shug.  Just by having Shug's presence, Celie is physically, emotionally, and mentally more stable and she is much happier with Shug.  Celie even was very concerned when Shug was about to leave and begged her to stay.  Shug is more than just a friend to Celie, she is someone who Celie yearns for physically and  mentally.
