Does Celie like the love melons?

In further analysis of the novel, we begin to see more vivid descriptions of Celie's sexuality come up when discussing Shug. Shug is a very empowered character from within the text that Celie has looked up too ever since she heard about her. The question has been posed whether or not Celie is a lesbian or not because of her attraction to Shug. I can see how people could think that Celie is a lesbian when it came to Shug introducing Celie to her own clitoris. "I look at her and touch it with my finger. A little shiver go through me. Nothing much. But just enough to tell me this the right button to mash." (Walker 82). Shug had introduced Celie to her own body which only furthered Celie's attraction to Shug more. In my own opinion, I believe that Celie is not a lesbian. Celie for the longest period of time has been attracted to Shug, I think this attraction is purely psychological. She wants to be just like Shug: pretty, not afraid to stand up for herself, and sexually powerful. When Shug undresses in front of Celie while she bathes her, she begins to look at her like a man, and like she would want to be with Shug. However, Celie is infatuated with this idea of being a perfect woman: beautiful, strong, and powerful. Celie loathes the life of Shug, being a performer and all. In final conclusion, no Celie does not like the love melons, but rather she like the psychological and mental being of who Shug is.
