Celie is a Lesbian, Who Knew?

Throughout the novel, Celie has several thoughts and commits many acts which indicate that she is a lesbian. The text itself shows off this truth. Pages 77 to 79 include three pages of descriptions, including when Celie discovers that she experiences extreme pleasure from masturbating while thinking of Shug. The interesting part of this is that there's more description of this one instance, and it is in much more detail, than the rest of Celie's sexual experiences combined. In the rest of the book, whenever a man has sex with Celie, she barely gives it a passing thought. Simply making comments like "he was on top of me", without any sort of elaboration. In this situation, she even goes on to say that "a little shiver ran through me" (Walker 78). She never so much as described how she felt, physically or emotionally, when having sex with other men, but become borderline orgasmic when trying this new experiment for the first time.
