Can Memories create sight filled with light in true darkness?

As I read the passage the question can memory create sight in darkness was in my mind. In the passage it has light in this darkness of night together. The character talks about this light and sight all in darkness. I think that the mixture of light and sight in pure darkness is a symbol of how people tend to create this light to see through the darkest of the night and/or despair. All this light was created by this memories of the good times for the mind, the character goes as far as saying she does not need eyes. Therefor she was living in this blind world of happiness even through the darkest of time, remembering  even the details of the happiness of the sight and being lost in that world, no one could break in with despair.
