The Thematic Question of the Century
A thmatic question raised in the graphic novel Persepolis by Marjane Satrapi is: Is all change for the better for all or some in a revolutionary period? The reason this question is present is because of the time of 1980-1990, there was numerous changes all throughout the country of Iran. For example, all girls had to wear a veil to conceil their hair and cover themselves from head to toe. There was a separation in schools to keep girls and boys apart. These changes in society lead to uproars and demonstrations on the streets to stop these changes. this eventually lead to citizens going to prison for years, others being beaten, or killed. Another type of change throughout this time is that in the country of Iran, there was a ban of westernization products such as music, movies and other sources of influence the imperialist thought to be conceided as "revolting". Due to this change, many of the population was smuggling music, posters and other western good into the country, trying not to get caught. Those who were caught had to either be punished at the "committee" (as seen in the graphic novel Persepolis) or put to death there for going against the law established.
