Pedro Paramo Close Read Chapter 1
This passage is obviously setting up the book with the characterization, but we still
don’t know who all of these people that are introduced are and what they mean. The
first page leaves the reader wondering who Pedro is and what he did and what they
need to get back from him. This passage also ties in emotion and confusion in the
narrator and makes you want to take the journey to figure it all out with him. Because
the passage is so passionate and emotional, it grabs you into the book. Another
reason why the reader is wants to read on is because of the vagueness. The sentence
structures vary, but they are very to the point. It is confusing because although the
sentences are to the point, they are still very vague in explaining what is going on
and who these people are. We can see a motif of death, and we later see that it is a
prevalent motif throughout the book.
