The Close Read of Pedro Paramo: Chapter One
Juan’s mother so often asked of Juan to go to Colama and he
so often agreed. He would have gone to Comala even if he wanted to or not. When
his mother speaks in this section, she contradicts herself. She first says that
Pedro will want to know Juan. Then later she says that he has kept them out of
his mind as to say that he doesn’t care about them and doesn’t want to. The
chapter starts with “I came to Comala…” and ends with “That’s why I came to
Comala.” This suggests that everything begins and ends in Comala. Juan’s
journey starts in Comala and ends in Comala.

Why are the first two sentences significant? Try to answer this question to avoid summary. Flesh out the idea of the cyclical journey (things beginning and ending in Comala). It's a very interesting idea.
